Spectroscopic Analysis and Dynamics of Dissolved Organic Carbon from an Oil Palm Plantation Peatland

نویسندگان

چکیده

Drainage following conversion of peatlands to oil palm plantations is always associated with carbon (C) loss, one which dissolved organic (DOC). Analytical procedure commonly used determine DOC the high-temperature combustion (HTC) method, requires an expensive instrument. An alternative low-cost method has been developed. The objectives this research were and validate most suitable UV-Vis spectrophotometer’s wavelength for estimating concentration evaluating its dynamics from oil-palm plantation Indonesian-peatland. concentrations measured on ground water canal samples at wavelengths 254, 270, 350 nm analytical results then validated against those reference values resulted use HTC using Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (TOC Analyzer), based simple regression analysis. showed that spectrophotometer was nm. in groundwater (35.67 ± 8.40 mg L-1) around two times greater than (16.26 4.15 L-1). flux area range 0.66 ˗ 1.15 g C m-2 month-1, average 0.85 month-1.

Investigations of freezing and cold storage for the analysis of peatland dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and absorbance properties.

Although measured rates of biological degradation of DOC are typically low under dark conditions, it is assumed that water samples must be analysed soon after collection to provide an accurate measure of DOC concentration and UV-visible absorbance. To examine the impact of storage on DOC quality and quantity, we took water samples from an ombrotrophic peatland, and stored them in the dark at 4 ...

Remotely sensed evidence of tropical peatland conversion to oil palm.

Rising global demands for food and biofuels are driving forest clearance in the tropics. Oil-palm expansion contributes to biodiversity declines and carbon emissions in Southeast Asia. However, the magnitudes of these impacts remain largely unquantified until now. We produce a 250-m spatial resolution map of closed canopy oil-palm plantations in the lowlands of Peninsular Malaysia (2 million ha...

Degradation of Triazine-2-14C Metsulfuron–Methyl in Soil from an Oil Palm Plantation

Triazine-2-(14)C metsulfuron-methyl is a selective, systemic sulfonylurea herbicide. Degradation studies in soils are essential for the evaluation of the persistence of pesticides and their breakdown products. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the degradation of triazine-2-(14)C metsulfuron-methyl in soil under laboratory conditions. A High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HP...

Characteristics of dissolved organic matter following 20years of peatland restoration.

The changes in the amounts and composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) following long-term peat restoration are unknown, although this fraction of soil organic matter affects many processes in such ecosystems. We addressed this lack of knowledge by investigating a peatland in south-west Germany that was partly rewetted 20 years ago. A successfully restored site and a moderately drained si...
